Singapore Trademark Information

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is an island country off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 kilometres (85 mi) north of the equator, in Southeast Asia. It is separated from Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to its north, and from Indonesia's Riau Islands by the Singapore Strait to its south. The population is estimated at 4987600 with a GDP of $255.338 billion.

Singapore was founded as a British trading colony in 1819. It joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963 but separated two years later and became independent. Singapore subsequently became one of the world's most prosperous countries with strong international trading links (its port is one of the world's busiest in terms of tonnage handled) and with per capita GDP equal to that of the leading nations of Western Europe.

Trademarks are assigned through the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS). Singapore is a member of the Madrid Protocol. A trademark is valid for 10 years and may be renewed for further periods of 10 years each.
