Niue Trademark Information

Niue is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean located is 2,400 kilometers northeast of New Zealand. The population is estimated at 1,400 with a GDP of $7.6 million.

Niue's remoteness, as well as cultural and linguistic differences between its Polynesian inhabitants and those of the rest of the Cook Islands, have caused it to be separately administered. The population of the island continues to drop (from a peak of 5,200 in 1966 to an estimated 1,398 in 2009) with substantial emigration to New Zealand 2,400 km to the southwest.

Trademarks are assigned through the Ministry of Economic Development. Niue is not a member of the Madrid Protocol and trademark registration and enforcement is controlled by New Zealand. A trademark is valid for 10 years and may be renewed for further periods of 10 years each.
