French Polynesia Trademark Information

French Polynesia is a French overseas collectivity in the southern Pacific Ocean east of Australia. The population is estimated at 264,000 with a GDP of $6.65 billion.

The French annexed various Polynesian island groups during the 19th century. In September 1995, France stirred up widespread protests by resuming nuclear testing on the Mururoa atoll after a three-year moratorium. The tests were suspended in January 1996. In recent years, French Polynesia's autonomy has been considerably expanded.

Trademarks are assigned through the Intellectual Property Office Information Centre. French Polynesia is a member of the Madrid Protocol and trademark registration and enforcement is controlled by France. A trademark is valid for 10 years and may be renewed for further periods of 10 years each.
